About the Book
Welcome to this short story about a six year old chocolate lab named Sam who lives in San Francisco and is a diehard Giants fan. Sam thinks his life is all set up just the way he wants it, and then he loses his best friend, Larry.
Much of Sam’s certainty comes from Larry’s vision of how to live life well. The only problem is that Larry is a pug, and, while pugs and Labrador retrievers are both dogs, much of the similarities end there. Of course, Sam has no concept of this, as Larry has been his only mentor. Once
Larry leaves, Sam is unsure of what to do.
Fortunately, he is saved by the beginning of the 2010 baseball season, and, in honor of Larry, he heads to AT&T Park. Sam’s trips to “The Yard” become a series of adventures and chance encounters with a distinct group of mentors.
Each of the mentors alters Sam’s perspective on life. They share their insights and life lessons, using the Giants players and their games as examples.
The city of San Francisco, and some of its lesser known treasures, is the back drop for this story about learning how to deal with the changes that we all face.
Be you a lover of baseball, the San Francisco Giants, or the city by the Bay, this story will walk you through what, for many, was a fantastic seven month Giants season.
Hopefully, one or two of the mentors will speak to you in some way, and, regardless of your current position in life, you will jump into the character of Sam. His journey, like yours, is never point A to point B. In fact, sometimes Sam’s life looks like that famous San Francisco landmark known for its sharp turns.
Yes, life can often feel like Lombard Street!
Enjoy the ride!
